notifyIfNewVersion: See if there's a new version of the package on GitHub

Description

checkForNewVersion looks for a tagged version on GitHub and compares with the version number of the currently installed package. notifyIfNewVersion wraps it and displays a message if there is a new version. It is called in .onLoad().

Usage

notifyIfNewVersion(

  installed.version = as.character(packageVersion(package))

checkForNewVersion(github, installed.version)

Value

checkForNewVersion returns the version string if there is a new version, or NULL. notifyIfNewVersion returns nothing invisibly, called for its side effects.

character the currently installed version string
