R_stiff

A <code>FEMbasis</code> object representing the basis; See <code><a href="/link/create.FEM.basis?package=fdaPDE&version=0.1-3" rd-options="" data-mini-rdoc="fdaPDE::create.FEM.basis">create.FEM.basis</a></code>.

FEMbasis

Only executed when <code>smooth.FEM.basis</code> is run with the option  <code>CPP_CODE</code> = <code>FALSE</code>. It computes the stifness matrix. The element (i,j) of this matrix contains the integral over the domain of the scalar product between the gradient of the ith and kth element 
of the Finite Element basis. As common practise in Finite Element Analysis, this quantities are computed iterating over all the mesh triangles.

An implementation of regression models with partial differential regularizations, making use of the Finite Element Method. The models efficiently handle data distributed over irregularly shaped domains and can comply with various conditions at the boundaries of the domain. A priori information about the spatial structure of the phenomenon under study can be incorporated in the model via the differential regularization.
