RMprecip

This is a useful spatial data set of moderate size consisting of 800 
locations The list has 
components:

Fields is a collection of programs for curve and function
 fitting with an emphasis on spatial data and spatial statistics. The
 major methods implemented include cubic, robust, and thin plate splines, 
 universal Kriging and Kriging for large data sets. One main feature is any
 covariance function implemented in R can be used for spatial prediction. 
 There are also some useful functions for plotting and working with 
 spatial data as images. This package also contains implementation of a
 smooth wavelet basis suitable for spatial models.

This data set is a list containing the following components:

<ul><li><name>x</name><description>Longitude-latitude postion of monitoring stations.</description></li><li><name>y</name><description>Standardized precipitaton. The square root of precip has 
been standardized by subtracting the 30 year ( 1960-1989) mean and 
dividing 
by the standard deviation. This is a simple way to transform to a process  
that closer to a stationary Gaussian field.</description></li><li><name>x.cv</name><description>Additional locations for cross-validation. The 
locations weere generated as a space-filling type design.</description></li><li><name>y.cv</name><description>values for cross validation</description></li></ul>
