            a numeric vector of time points corresponding to the observations in <code>y</code>

            a factor indicating which subject the observations in <code>y</code> belong to
        </dd> <dt>variable</dt><dd>
            a factor indicating which gene transcript the observations in <code>y</code> belong to
        </dd> </dl>
