pdfgev: Probability Density Function of the Generalized Extreme Value Distribution

Description

This function computes the probability density of the Generalized Extreme Value distribution given parameters ($\xi$, $\alpha$, and $\kappa$) of the distribution computed by pargev. The probability density function of the distribution is

$$f(x) = \alpha^{-1} e^{-(1-\kappa)y - e^{-y}} \mbox{,}$$

$$y = -\kappa^{-1} \log\left(1 - \frac{\kappa(x-\xi)}{\alpha}\right) \mbox{ for } \kappa \ne 0 \mbox{, and}$$

$$y = (x-\xi)/\alpha \mbox{ for } \kappa = 0 \mbox{,}$$ where $f(x)$ is the probability density for quantile $x$, $\xi$ is a location parameter, $\alpha$ is a scale parameter, and $\kappa$ is a shape parameter.

Usage

pdfgev(x, para)

Arguments

x
A real value.
para
The parameters from pargev or similar.

Value

  • Probability density ($f$) for $x$.
